Introduction
Medical Dictionary Application is a capstone project design to serve as a source of information in terms of medical terminologies. The application will contain medical terms, abbreviations and its meaning. The application can be used by both iOS and Android users.
In the modern world, the need for accessible information is very important especially information that deals with our health. Not everyone is knowledgeable enough about the terminologies that are related to medical field. People are used to seek for information from doctors or medical experts. It is also important for medical students to have knowledge about different medical terminologies and abbreviations that is medically related. Students often rely on their professors and books for information and this is not enough resources for them to be knowledgeable enough. What we need nowadays are accessible and portable source of information that deals with our health. The manual way in attaining information is not efficient and convenient.
Proposed Solution
The proposed solution for the problem is to develop an application that stores information about the definition or meaning of different medical terminologies. The application will help the end users put in their own hands the information they wish to know. This medical dictionary will be of great help for those who seek to gain knowledge. The application will also help medical students in their studies, they will have accessible source of information if they have difficulty in understanding some terms in their lessons.
The proposed capstone project is a mobile application that will be designed and developed in Kotlin or Java. For android application, Java is one of the preferred programming languages to used together with the Android Studio. Cross platform technologies such as Kotlin will allow developers to build an application in both Android and iOS.
Objectives of the Study
General Objective- the main goal of this capstone project is to design and develop an application that will store different medical terminologies and its meaning.
The specific objectives of the study are the following:
- To develop an application that will serve as medical reference.
- The application will serve as repository of accurate information about medical terms.
- Output of the capstone project will have a simple interface and will be easy to use so that wide range of people can use it.
- To provide convenience to the users in seeking medical information.
- Develop a mobile application that can be used in an offline setting or without internet connection.
- Application for both Android and iOS will be tested and installed on their specific platforms and devices to test the functionalities of the capstone project.
Significance of the Study
The following group or individuals will benefit from this project:
Medical Experts/Doctors. The application will help lessen the people they need to attend to in explaining medical information.
Medical Student. The success of this project will help them have a dictionary in their smart phone which is very accessible in times of difficulty in understanding their lesson.
Other Users. They are those people who are not inclined on medical but wish to understand some information especially about their health.
Researchers. It is a challenge on the end of the researchers to develop a mobile application that will be implemented in both iOS and Android platform. The researchers of this study will gain knowledge and skills in developing a lot more helpful programs.
Future Researchers. They can use this study as a basis if they wish to upgrade and have their own version of medical dictionary. The version proposed by the researchers will only focus on the dictionary terms related to medical field. Future researchers can use the idea in developing a dictionary app in the other fields aside from medical terms. Furthermore, they can also add another feature such as the quiz option or assessment to make the app more interactive.
