The capstone project, titled “Alternative Learning System Student Tracking Application” is designed for tracking student’s records and progress under the Alternative Learning System program. The current system of tracking ALS students is done by manually collecting and keeping their records and data to assess their progress which is prone to errors and inconvenience.
One of the most effective and efficient ways in getting rid of the problems encountered in the current method of tracking ALS students are IT-based solutions. In conjunction with this, the researchers are eyeing on developing an application that will ease up tracking and monitoring of students. The tracking application will assist the ALS facilitators to take a grasp of their student’s records for easy monitoring.
The researchers will develop the tracking application using the System Development Life Cycle Approach (SDLC) approach. The SDLC approach composes of stages such as determining project requirements, data gathering, data analysis, designing, and coding that lead to the development of the software.
The implementation of the tracking application will eliminate all the problems and difficulties encountered in the manual process. The tracking application will lead to effective and efficient student tracking under the ALS program.

The ALS program usually tracks their student’s status by manually collecting the records and data of the students. The manual approach is ineffective for it takes a lot of time and effort and is also prone to human errors. Since students are only present during agreed schedules, it is hard for the ALS instructors to track their performance since their records are not intact.
To overcome the problems mentioned above, the researchers proposed an Alternative Learning System Student Tracking Application to automate the processes of tracking students under the ALS program. The ALS facilitator can use the application in tracking the progress and performance of their students especially in assessing the improvement of their literacy skills. The proposed application is reliable in collecting accurate data that reflect the status of the students under the ALS program. By using the system, ALS facilitator can closely monitor and keep in tracking their students in a convenient and hassle-free manner.

Objectives of the Study
General Objective – The main purpose of the project is to design and develop a student tracking application for ALS students to automate the process of tracking and monitoring their records and performance.
The project specifically aims the following objectives:

- The application will collect and store records of students to electronically track and monitor it.

Scope of the Study
Alternative Learning System Student Tracking application is a project conducted to design and develops an effective tracking application for ALS students. The system will allow ALS facilitators to electronically conduct the collection of students data, tracking and monitoring process of student’s performance and progress. The study will be conducted using the respondents and other intended users to check the efficiency and reliability of the system in tracking ALS students.
Significance of the Study
The success of the project is deemed beneficial to the following:
ALS Facilitator/Instructor. The success of the system will let them electronically track their students. It will be easier for them to keep in track and monitor their students record and performance.
Students. The system will help them easily know the status of performance even if they are not present in their school facilities every day. The application will ensure them that their instructors track and monitor their status to be able to help them improve.
Researchers. The success of the project will contribute to their achievements as developers. The project will further enhance their skills and knowledge in programming.
Future Researchers. The study will serve as their guide in doing their own version of the ALS students tracking application.
Student tracking is an important activity in order to monitor the students standing and progress in school. The result of the study prompts the researchers to highly recommend the implementation of the system. The researchers recommend that the ALS program should adapt the use of the developed application in order for them to easily track their students. The application will automate the process of collecting and gathering student records and data as a basis in assessing their performance and progress under the ALS program. The implementation of the application is highly recommended because of its effectiveness and reliability that can be rendered to the intended users. The researchers suggest that the intended users should have enough knowledge on how the program will work for them to correctly use the system.
