Abstract of Arduino Based Automated Plant Watering System

The capstone project entitled “Arduino Based Automated Plant Watering System” is software and hardware based system powered by Arduino and C/C++ or Java. PHP, MySQL and Bootstrap were also used for the web interface and database storage of the project.  It is intended to automate the water scheduling system using an app or can be controlled in a web based admin panel. Water is very essential to the plants since they used it to dissolve minerals and nutrients from the soil and then absorbed by the roots and carry it up through the stems and leaves.  The main issue that this capstone can resolve is the time adjustment of watering the plants. Remote monitoring and setting up the water scheduling will be efficient and easy as well. Arduino Uno, soil moisture sensor, water pump, 12 volts power supply are the primary hardware components of the project. Data captured by sensors will be transmitted and stored in the database end of the system. A web based admin panel was also created to display the records captured and compiled by system and the status of various hardware components. As part of the capstone project requirement, the output of the project is subject for several types of testing.  Evaluation and testing procedures are necessary to ensure the project functions according to its purpose and objectives. Initial testing was conducted and evaluated by the IT experts in the field of computer programming and electronics. Necessary steps were done by the researchers according to the requests and suggestion of the experts. Final testing is the process wherein the revised project will be checked and reviewed again by the IT experts to examine if the suggestions were incorporated in the project. The last type of testing is the user acceptance testing. In this phase, the end-user will be involved since they are the respondents and beneficiaries of the project. Results showed that the project was rated very good by the experts and is highly accepted by the end-users. It is therefore recommended that the project must be utilized and commercialized by the institution for it can bring an innovative solution in the field of agriculture.
