Traffic Management System is mainly concerned in controlling and managing traffic congestion. The system will help the Department of Transportation to maintain and expand viable, efficient and dependable transportation systems that would control traffic congestion which causes more serious problem. The system would be focusing on preventing congestion and improving the overall traffic efficiency.

At the present, quick mobility is one of the most basic needs. People need vehicles in their everyday lives. In this way, the rapid growth of population also increases the number of vehicles as well. Due to the increased number of vehicles, traffic congestion would be an issue. It will result to several problems concerning the environment and society such as increasing in number of traffic accidents, economic impact and high level of greenhouse emissions.

To overcome such issue, traffic management system would be utilize to gather information to identify hazards that may potentially degrade the traffic efficiency, and then provides services to control them. The system would be systematically used to resolve the problems in transportation traffic.

Objectives of the Study

General Objective

The capstone project is intended to provide a platform that will disseminate the traffic updates.

Specific Objectives

  1. The system will be a platform to gather information to be used to identify and control hazards brought by congestion.
  2. The system would provide features that can be used by the Department of Transportation to manage and control traffic congestion.
  3. The system will have a management tool to reduce the speed of the vehicles in order to reduce the time spent in traffic lights.
  4. The system will also help to detect and prevent traffic congestion.
  5. The system will also be utilized to suggest alternative routes to the vehicles.
  6. The capstone project will also be evaluated by the IT experts to further improve the functionalities.
  7. Lastly, the capstone project will be tested by some end-users to gather more information and feedback about the system.

Significance of the Study

Department of Transportation/Management. The system would highly benefit them to effectively manage the traffic that causes congestion. This would help them resolve the issues that cause traffic.

Vehicle Owners/Drivers. The system would be a great help to them. They could utilize it to avoid problems that would likely to arise due to traffic especially accidents. The system would help them be secured and save time spent being stuck in a traffic.

Commuters. This is also very important to the commuters, especially the public commuters. with the implementation of the traffic management system, they will be able to receive and view the real-time updates of the traffic.

Researchers. This is an IT based solution that the researchers are proposing. This is very important for the researchers for they will be able to apply their skills and knowledge in a real life situation and problem.

Future Researchers. The output of the capstone project will serve as their basis in the upgrade and enhancement of the project if they choose to conduct a capstone project similar to this Traffic Management System.
