Android-Based Library Catalog App Capstone Project

Android-Based Library Catalog App Capstone Project

Introduction of the Study

The capstone project entitled “Android-based Library Catalog App” is an android-based application that allows users to successfully find, identify, select and obtain resources in libraries. The application will help users conveniently access resources without the supervision of librarians.

Libraries serve as one source of knowledge which provides numerous resources such as books, articles, journals and many more. One of the main services offered by libraries is borrowing of books. The existing system which is web applications of managing book borrowing in libraries is ineffective and is not highly accessible especially for those who only have mobile phones. The existing system is not effective in managing all tasks a library should accomplish in providing better services to the users. The library users may encounter difficulties in finding, identifying, selecting and obtaining the resources they needed.

Proposed Solution (Library Catalog App)

To address the concerns mentioned above, the researchers of the study proposed an android-based library catalog app to fill in the gaps seen in the existing system. The android-based catalog library app aims to make the library resources accessible to users using android devices and makes the process of circulation easier. The app will help users to access the resources they need without librarians or the need of personal computers. The users can easily find, identify, select and obtain their required resources using their android phone which saves time and also convenient.

Objectives of the Study

General Objective- the main purpose of the project is to further improve the services offered by libraries using android-based catalog app.

Specifically, the project aims the following objectives:

  1. To develop an application that will make the process of book circulation easier.
  2. Complete the development of the system according to the timeframe or project schedule.
  3. Design and develop a user friendly application
  4. To develop an application that will help library users conveniently look for resources they need.
  5. The application will help librarians to smoothen and monitor transactions in libraries.
  6. To develop a system that is easy to operate and should be completed within a short period of time and must fit with the budget of the end-user.
  7. The application will be accurate, reliable and convenient to use.

Significance of the Study

The success of the study is deemed beneficial to the following individuals or group:

Libraries. The application will help improve the services offered by libraries. By using the application, libraries will be efficient in meeting the needs of their users.

Librarians. The application will lessen the work of the librarians especially in keeping track and monitoring different resources in the library. The application will let them conveniently add details of books and monitor book borrowing.

Library Users. The application will highly benefit them by letting them conveniently find, identify, select and obtain resources in libraries.

Researchers. The success of the study will contribute more on their knowledge and skills as programmers.

Future Researchers. The study will serve as their baseline in developing their own version of Library Catalog App.

Development Tools

The proposed capstone on android based library catalog app is connected to the main library system of the school. Records such as the lists of books and other library resources are the records that will be needed in the proposed application. Researchers intended to develop an application specifically for android devices. With that, the researchers will use Android Studio for the development of the said capstone project.
