X-Ray Results Image Archiving

X-Ray Results Image Archiving

Abstract

Technological advancements are the driving force behind the significant changes and improvements in the field of healthcare. The use of different health technologies has saved numerous patients and improved healthcare services and operations immensely.

The capstone project, entitled “X-Ray Results Image Archiving” is designed primarily for healthcare organizations. It is software that allows the radiology department to securely store electronic images of the patient’s X-ray result. Without technological intervention, operations and daily activities in the radiology department use manual approaches. The department will rely on a film-based X-ray result image which needs physical storage.

The researchers will develop a system that will mainly function as X-Ray results image electronic storage. The system will also allow the radiology department to digitally transmit the image of the X-ray result across different hospital departments and other radiology centers.

After the development process, the researchers will present the system to the end-users for testing and checking. The system will also be evaluated by IT experts for further enhancement and revision of the system. The system will be assessed in terms of effectiveness, quality, reliability, and productivity.

The implementation of the system will help radiology departments to easily store X-Ray result images. The system will securely store the images without deteriorating the quality of the image even if stored for a long time. The implementation of the system will seamlessly streamline the transmission and retrieval of the archived X-Ray result images.

Introduction

The capstone project, entitled “X-Ray Result Image Archiving” is a system intended to be used by healthcare organizations. The said project will streamline the process of archiving X-Ray Result Images. Healthcare organizations that will use the system can preserve the quality of the X-Ray result images and can easily retrieve and transmit the result across different radiologists.

The X-Ray Imaging test is used by doctors to painlessly view the inside of the patient’s body. This method will help professional physicians to monitor and diagnose the patients without needing to do incisions. Conventionally, X-ray results are presented using hard copy film-based images. The hard copy results are difficult to store and archive for it requires physical storage and the quality of images will deteriorate if stored for a long time. Retrieval and transmission also of the result will be difficult in case the patients seek professional opinions from other radiologists and health physicians. The pre-existing method used by the radiology department is outdated and inefficient.

Proposed Solution

In conjunction with the above-mentioned concerns, the researchers proposed the development of the X-Ray Result Image Archiving System. The proposed system will help the radiology department to easily store X-Ray result images. It will securely store the images without deteriorating the quality even if stored for a long time. The proposed system will seamlessly streamline the transmission and retrieval of the archived X-Ray result images. It is an effective system that will improve the operational efficiency and services offered by the radiology department.

Objectives of the Study

General Objective – the researchers generally aim to design, develop and implement an effective system that will streamline electronic archiving of the X-ray result image.

The researchers specifically aim the following objectives:

  1. To produce film-less X-Ray result images.
  2. To securely store electronic images of X-ray results.
  3. To ease up the retrieval of the x-ray results for future medical reference.
  4. To digitally transmit the result of the X-ray across multiple radiologists.
  5. To evaluate the system in terms of user acceptability, effectiveness, quality, reliability, and productivity.

Scope of the Study

The researchers focus on developing a system that will electronically archive X-ray result images. The system is specifically designed for healthcare organizations which will improve the operational efficiency and services offered by the radiology department. This study only covers the development process of the X-ray Result Image Archiving System. Hospitals, Radiology department staff, and radiologists will participate as respondents to the study.

Significance of the Study

The success of the study is significant to the following individuals and groups:

Hospitals. The system will help them improve their operation and services offered especially in the radiology department.

Radiology Department. The success of the project will directly benefit them. The project will help them securely store the images of the X-ray results without needing physical storage. They can easily archive electronic images using the system.

Patients. The system will help assure them that their X-ray results are held confidential and they can easily ask for electronic copies in case they want professional opinions of other radiologists and health physicians.

Researchers. The process of conducting the study will harness their ability in developing successful computerized systems.

Future Researchers. The study will serve as their reference in developing new updates to the system.

Conclusion

This study was conducted to develop an X-Ray Result Image Archiving System. The developed system was presented to its target end-users for assessment in terms of user acceptability, effectiveness, quality, reliability, and productivity of the system. The result of the study showed that the developed system was satisfactorily rated by the respondents and intended users. The study showed that the system met the predefined needs and requirements of the target users.

Hence, the researchers concluded that the system is an effective tool to be used by the radiology department. It will eliminate the difficulties encountered in efficiently archiving X-ray result images. The developed system will help radiology departments to easily store X-Ray result images. It will securely store the images without deteriorating the quality of the image even if stored for a long time. The developed system will seamlessly streamline the transmission and retrieval of the archived X-Ray result images.

Recommendations

Based on the positive result of the study, the researchers highly recommend the implementation of the X-Ray Result Image Archiving System. The implementation of the system will allow the radiology department to electronically archive and digitally transmit the image of the X-ray result across different hospital departments and other radiology centers. The researchers also suggest that the intended users of the project must familiarize the features and how the system works to properly used it.

The researchers specifically recommend the following:

  1. Hospitals are recommended to adopt the use of the system to seamlessly improve the operation and services of the radiology department.
  2. The researchers suggest that different radiology departments and radiologists must install the system to easily and securely archive X-ray result images.
  3. The system is recommended to eliminate the traditional hard copy x-ray result images to a film-less image.
  4. The system is strongly recommended for its efficiency, accuracy, and reliability that can be rendered to the target users.
