IPO Model Conceptual Framework of Maternal Records Management System

IPO Model Conceptual Framework of Maternal Records Management System

This article will show you how to create a conceptual framework for the capstone project titled Maternal Records Management System. The input, process, output (IPO) model was used to create the conceptual foundation for this investigation.

About the Project

The capstone project, “Maternal Records Management System” is a system that automates the process of recording and keeping maternal records. The said project will allow maternity clinics to track and monitor their patients’ records from pregnancy to their baby’s immunization records.

Maternal record is significant for every pregnant woman for it contains orderly and accurate information of pregnancy. The record helps in detecting and monitoring risk and complications during pregnancy. Conventionally, records of a pregnant woman are written in a paper and are kept in a cabinet or any physical storage. The manual process of maternal records is prone to human error such as mistakes in writing the accurate details. When records of maternity are kept manually, difficulties would highly occur during retrieval of the documents. The manual method is not ideal in managing maternal records for problems may arise during the pregnancy due to the inefficiency of keeping records that may serve as a reference. Pregnant woman and maternity clinic is in need of an effective system to streamline the process of managing maternal record

Objectives of the Study

  1. To develop a system that allows electronic recording of important pregnancy information.
  2. The system will serve as a centralized system were maternal records are kept.
  3. To design a system that will keep accurate maternal records electronically safe and secured.
  4. The system is easy, reliable and convenient to use.

The study is guided based on the Logic Model Approach to design, develop, implement and basis for identifying and measuring the impact of the utilization of Maternal Records Management System.

Input

Problem Identification – the respondents of this study will be the maternity clinics. There are still clinics that are using the paper and pen approach in managing the records of the pregnant women which is prone to a lot of barriers and difficulties.

User Requirement – this is the part where the researchers have gathered information on the specific features of the system. It is very important to consider their ideas since they will be the one to use the maternal records management system.

Literature Review – the researchers have conducted researches and studies that are closely related to the propose system. This process will help the researchers in the development of the project or system.

Planning and Preparation – this is the part where the researchers will prepare the timeline and scheduled of activities for the entire project.

Process

Identify the features of the system – this stage of the process cycle is where the researchers enumerates the list of features to be included in the system based on the specified requirements needed by the end-users.

Screen layout – the researchers created a wireframe for every features and form design as well. User Interface of the project is the output for this part.

ERD – entity relationship diagram represents the structural data model of the project.

Database Design – the ERD will be converted into the actual database that will be used in the project, in this case the erd will be converted into a sql database.

Use Case – the researchers also prepares a diagram on what are the features the users can access.

Programming/Coding – this is the project comes into life, the project will be developed in PHP, MySQL and Bootstrap.

Testing – the project needs to be tested before it will be implemented with live data and information.

Output

Deployment and Implementation of Maternal Records Management System – the design of the implementation is parallel, which means that the current manual method will still be in use while the system is also up and running. The purpose of the parallel method is to compare the results of the manual to the result of the database system. Eventually the manual process will be abandoned and the full implementation of the system will took place.

During all phases of the maternity care process, the maternal records management system (RMIS) will be established and implemented. The RMIS will be used to gather, store, and evaluate information pertaining to maternal health care services. Improved quality and safety of maternity care will be achieved through the adoption of the RMIS. In order to improve the efficiency of the maternity care process, the RMIS will be implemented.

Outcome

  • Centralized storage of the maternal records of pregnant women
  • Flexibility of the system features based on the user requirement

Impact

The Maternal Records Management System will be a valuable instrument in the effort to improve the quality of care provided to pregnant mothers and their new-born. The following are some of the system’s primary advantages:

  • increased safety for pregnant women and their infants;
  • increased safety for pregnant women and their infants;
  • increased access to health care for pregnant women and their infants.
  • improved data collection and reporting on maternal and infant health indicators.
  • provides efficient recording, storage and easy retrieval of maternal records.

Summary

The capstone project, “Maternal Records Management System” is a system that automates the process of recording and keeping maternal records. This article focused on the development of the study’s conceptual framework. The researchers used the output, process, input (IPO) model plus they also defined the outcome and the impact of the project. The input phase is consists of Problem Identification, User Requirement, Literature Review and Planning and preparation. The process phase involves steps such as Identifying the features of the system, Screen layout, ERD, Use Case, Database Design, Programming/Coding and Testing of the program. After the development the project will be then deployed and implemented. As stated in the conceptual framework the study will have 2 possible outcomes such as Centralized storage of the maternal records of pregnant women and Flexibility of the system features based on the user requirement. Overall, the system will provide an efficient recording, storage and easy retrieval of maternal records.
